No-fire-drill Tuesdays meet flash-sale reality

I told the team we’re banning last-minute POs on Tuesdays to protect focus, and a supplier rolled out a 48-hour “ends 4:59 p.m.” promo. We spent the afternoon triaging exceptions and still shaved 7% by bundling SKUs, but my “calm day” turned into a negotiating boot camp. Anyone else set guardrails that vendors treat as invitations?

I’d add a clause: Tuesday promos roll to Wednesday, 10+ SKUs per bundle; enforce on “ends 4:59 p.m.” games. Work?

‌‍‍‍‌‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‌‌‍‍‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‌‌‌‌‍‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‌‌‌‍‌‌‍‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‍‌‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‌‌

We killed the “ends 4:59 p.m.” chaos by using a blanket PO that price-locks the promo on Tuesday but doesn’t release or ship until Wednesday. Building on @otorre41, we also added a small Tuesday exception rush fee on the vendor scorecard, which suddenly pushed those 48-hour deals midweek. Would your supplier honor a 24–48 hr price-lock so you keep the 7% without the fire drill?

‌‍‍‍‌‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‌‌‍‍‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‌‌‌‌‍‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‌‍‍‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‍‍‌‌‍‍‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‍‌‌

Convert 48‑hour promos to retro credits in terms; capture the 7% without Tuesday exceptions — curious if @otorre41 has done this.

‌‍‍‍‌‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‌‌‍‍‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‌‌‌‌‍‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‌‍‌‍‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‍‌‌‍‌‍‌‍‍‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‍‌‍‌‌‍‌‍‌‍‍‌‌

We tied the Tuesday quiet-day rule to our JBP scorecard and a 0.5% co-op clawback for promos pushed into the window; compliance jumped and exceptions dried up — @otorre41 have you seen similar lift when there’s a KPI on the line?

‌‍‍‍‌‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‌‌‍‍‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‌‌‌‌‍‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‍‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‌‍‌‌‌‍‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‍‍‌‌

Nice save on the 7%. We baked a Tuesday blackout into promo T&Cs: any offer that overlaps Tuesday must either extend to Wednesday or be price-matched Wednesday, in return for us pulling forward one extra SKU that week; exceptions vanished because reps know the rule. @lucas467 ever try blackout language instead of chasing credits?

‌‍‍‍‌‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‌‌‍‍‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‌‌‌‌‍‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‍‍‌‌‌‍‌‌‍‍‍‌‌‍‌‍‍‍‌‌

That “ends 4:59 p.m.” is weaponized urgency — . We started issuing a $0 master on Mondays that locks the promo price as a quote, then do release orders Wednesday so Tuesday stays quiet and we still catch the deal. Smaller suppliers sometimes push back, so we sweeten with a tiny weekly volume floor to make it painless.
